Just wanted to share this

BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN SISTER

By Maya Angelou

"A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ,
That a man should have to seek Him first to find her"

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean living," I'm whispering "I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong. I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say.. "I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success. I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect, My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain... I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou, I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow!

What a beautiful writing by Maya Angelou. That's the kind of Christian I want to be. Not someone who stands out in a crowd but knows that I am a Child of God without me saying a word. I've met people before that after talking with them for just a few minutes I know within my spirit that the person is a Christian. It shouldn't be something that we have to tell someone but they can tell by the fruits we bare.
Thanks for sharing this. Hope everything is going well with you.

Mar,
This is a beautiful poem! I have never seen it before. I think I have heard of her before, didn't she write "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings"? It seems as though I remember her from high school English class.

Plant Lady,

Maya Angelou is the elderly black poet/writer from N.C. and Oprah's mentor. She is very wise and came from humble beginnings to be famous and was (may still be) teaching at Wake Forest University. Im glad you liked the post. I was so touched by it. You would probably recognize her if you saw her or heard her voice.
